COMUNICATO STAMPA FIK

AT THE SALENTINA CIRCUIT AT UGENTO ON 22ND APRIL
THE 2
ND HEAT OF THE "2007 INTERNATIONAL OPEN MASTERS"

Following the great success of the opening heat at Sarno with 250 drivers entered the 2007 International Open Masters "FIA Authorised Series" moves to the track at Salentina di Ugento for the second heat of this season on 22nd April. Also this year the championship, reaching its tenth consecutive year and with the new Italian title "Coppa d'Italia Karting ACI-CSAI Open Masters" conferred on it by the Aci-Csai, can therefore count on a record number of drivers as well as the number of countries represented, a good 32, for a challenge which has acquired a truly worldwide standing.

In the first heat at Sarno, which saw the debut of the new international 125 cc ""KF-Long Life" engines without any particular problems arising, the Tony kart team colours prevailed in 3 of the 8 finals, with their wins achieved by the Englishman Gary Catt in KF1, the other English driver Will Stevens in KF2 and the European Champion Marco Ardigò in KZ2. In the other finals, in KF3  on the other hand it was the Maranello team which routed the competition with the Finn Petri Suvanto and the Englishman Jack Harvey, while in KF1 the other success went to Kosmic with the Belgian Benjamin Bailly driving. Laurels also went to Birel, winning in KF2 with the German Maring Burkhard, and repeating this performance in the first KZ2 final (with Monza chassis) with Manuel Cozzaglio.

With the appointment in Puglia at Ugento we begin to get to the heart of the championship, and the occasion is important for the first proper field tests, much more so if we consider the adverse weather conditions of the opening race at Sarno. On that regional circuit many complained about the unfortunate incidents, and they could have their first chance for them to redeem themselves on the track at Ugento. Like two standard-bearers of the Intrepid, the current champion Alessandro Manetti and the european champion Roberto Toninelli, were immediately delayed because of a sensational accident at the start of the first KZ2 final.

Amongst the most anticipated protagonists in KF1, the highest performance category, expectations were high above all for the world champion Davide Forè (from this year with Maranello), just as for Sauro Cesetti (Birel) and Antonio Piccioni (Tony Kart), who present the best chance from amongst the italians to win the title.
